[Technical Tips] Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Windows CE 6.0 on the HMI-043T-EM4XX-B01

The HMI-043T-EM4XX-B01 is a versatile Human-Machine Interface (HMI) device widely used in industrial automation. Installing Windows CE 6.0 on this device allows users to unlock its full potential, offering a lightweight and stable operating system for embedded applications. This guide provides essential tips and a step-by-step process to ensure a smooth installation.

Preparation Before Installation

Before starting the installation process, ensure the following:

• HMI-043T-EM4XX-B01: Verify that the device is functioning properly and powered with the correct power adapter.
• A USB flash drive (minimum 512MB, FAT/FAT32 formatted). The media will be used to load the Windows CE 6.0 installation files.
• A computer with a working internet connection, SD card reader, or USB port to prepare the bootable drive.
• Rufus: Download and install Rufus for creating the bootable media.

Download Installation Files

Download the following files to your PC:

• Windows CE 6.0 installation package
• Drivers and configuration files specific to the HMI-043T-EM4XX-B01 series product, please reference the ICOP’s website OS Support list.

Step 1: Preparing the Bootable Media Using Rufus from Personal Computer

To install Windows CE 6.0 on the HMI-043T-EM4XX-B01, you’ll need to create a bootable SD card or USB drive. This article uses a USB drive for this purpose, please refer to follow the steps below:

1. 下載 Win CE6.0_package
2. You will see the FDOS_043.img file, GHOST11.exe 與 NK.bin inside the file package
   
3. Please Extract the FDOS_043.img.xz image file (Suggest to extract in the PC)
   
4. Double click the Rufus.exe to make a FreeDOS bootable disk
   
5. Rufus setting: USB 裝置, Select FDOS_043.img.xz file 與 START
   
6. Click OK to completion of bootable disk
   
7. Open the file and you will see the files below:
   

Step 2: Configuring the HMI-043T Device for Installation

1. Insert the bootable media into the HMI-043T-EM4XX-B01
   
2. Press the F12 to choose the boot device
3. Press 2 to select the USB Flash Disk
   
4. Choose the option 1 and press Enter
   
5. You will see the screen down below and please key in cls to clear screen commands
   
6. Key in ghost11 to execute the ghost11.exe
   *Because of the resolution issue, the screen will be intercepted, so you can’t see all the following actions.
7. Press Enter and choose Local -> Disk -> From Image and you will see the screen down below
   
8. Select the CE6_043T.GHO ghost file
   
9. Choose the disk you want to install, and press OK to execute
   
10. Press Tab to choose “OK”
    
11. Choose the 是 to retore the disk
    
12. Select the right option Reset Computer to complete the clone and reboot
    
13. Please Unplug the USB and reboot the system, and you will see the Windows CE6.0 boot up from HMI-043T storage (EMMC)
